It's not that grandiose, truly. But if there's one thing I'm good at, it's thinking up pretentious titles. I gotta say, this one's up there. And let me qualify, just so you know--it's my theory, it's backed up by some personal theory, but this doesn't go for every vampire out there. Okay? Your experiences may definitely vary. In fact, they probably do.

Please remember the words of Robert Anton Wilson:

"I know that every system I make up is my own brain making up a system. None of the systems is big enough to include the whole universe, so all of my beliefs are only relatively true. Some are undoubtedly wrong because I'm not that brilliant that I never make a mistake."

In fact, I make lots of mistakes. And posting this may be one of them.

To start off with: a whole BUNCH of links regarding ongoing current research into mitochondrial disorders, all from Sphynxcatvp:

"Current potential theory on the table: Mitochondrial mutation/'malfunction'. Feel free to pick away at it. :) No, this is not the ATP theory, as you'll see when you go through the links." (Sphynxcatvp)

And another link on L-carnitine and ketogenic diets.

I'm gonna go through all these a bit later, and Sphynx, Orthaevelve, others and I are going to go on modified versions of the supplements recommended. In addition, when this is less a list of links, and more the paper that Sphynx is doubtless going to pull out of all this, I'll link that instead.

"Orthaevelve pointed out a craving for antioxidents and how she eats a lot of foods that are high in antioxidents. She also observed that after three day's worth of a beginner's version of my vitamin regimen that she has less pain and more energy." (Sphynxcatvp)

I don't know about you, but to me, that's fascinating. I'll keep you updated.

So here we go with the rest of it: We have the concept of prana and how it relates to vampires through solar energy. I can't and won't speak for everyone, but I haven't met many vampires who weren't sun-sensitive to one degree or another. So, maybe that's the first touchstone that's true from the myths--vampires can't handle large doses of solar prana, ensuring that we cannot replenish our own prana through the easiest of sources--sunbathing, getting sun, daytime activities.

That doesn't mean you'll walk outside your door and spontaneously implode--I'm the most photosensitive person I know, depending on what medication's in my system, and even I don't sizzle like bacon when I catch some rays. But it's bad enough that I have a ten to fifteen minute limit, period. My partner doesn't burn, but will, within the same space of time, become drained, disoriented, dizzy and flushed.

Whether it's photosensitivity or heatstroke, the condition remains the same--real vampires don't seem to be able to get a ton of sun to recharge.

Another marker along my theory's path is proper electrolyte balance. Electrolytes govern how our human bodies manage electricity, which is the source of what makes us go, to make things really damn simple. What are most of the symptoms of a vampire who hasn't fed in a while? Lack of energy. Feeling 'run down'. Depression, disassociation, enervation. So it might be a good idea to keep our electrolytes balanced. Simple sources are on the page, and I'm still hoping to run down recipes soon, but that's another link.

Next we come to the Pranic Therapy page. That one details the proper proportion of high-alkaline foods to acidic foods, saying that the bulk of foods eaten should be alkaline in nature--so trim out excess fats and oils, and most meats, and add in salad greens, fresh vegetables and fruits, sprouts, juices, and lots of pure water--and it should help, as far as keeping the system balanced.

I'm still researching the link between prana and proper energy balance, so the jury, in my case, is still out. However, this page also details the benefits of a diet in tune with prana.

One more thing--you might consider Living Energy's page on digestive herbs. When all else fails, strengthen your digestive system. Make it strong, and your body should respond. Too many symptoms of illness, and sooner or later, your digestion's gonna cut out, too.

Okay. All these links aside, I'm not necessarily advocating we all run off and become vegetarians overnight. Eat vegetarians, maybe. The thing is, there is research out there-old research--that tells us we can be healthier if we trim down the amount of red meat, increase the amount of nuts, vegetables, and fruits, and drink lots of purified water. These aren't bad things.

Something else to remember--and yeah, by necessity, as often as I'm being bumped offline today, this is less organized than I'd like--that Robert Anton Wilson said. He defines belief as a doctrine or certitude about what really should be considered a theory--"It is the death of intelligence, as by definition, holding a belief involved knowing absolutely that something is true", and therefore, one never considers any other thoughts once that belief is concretized.

My problem is I have a lot of concretized beliefs, and I'm trying to weed through them.

So. Prana. Prana and life force. And not being able to go out in the sun. Eating live foods and fresh juices seems to be an alternative to this, when fresh blood or fresh energy cannot be found.

This is a whole page of links on why sprouts are good for us, how easy they are to grow, what varieties there are, the benefits of live food over dead...a whole plethora of information on a single topic.

Okay, and this is turning to a page of links, so I'll work on it over the next few days. I have a point here. I think. Maybe it's just this--in a more primitive world than the one in which we live, we would be predators. With more primitives minds we would be predators. As it is, we reason, we think, and we as humans adapt to our environments. Though we still have thousands of years of evolution, struggle, and mutation to go through before we hit the next evolutionary leap, it is my private theory that real vampires, at least blood-drinkers, are a throwback to an earlier time, trained in the ethics and morality of this one. We can't just club people unconscious in the street and drag them back to the cave. We must negotiate, we must form relationships, we must accept that, between donors, we may hunger. We should accept alternatives to hurting or killing other humans.

Granted, most vampires of my acquaintance don't require all blood in a single body every time they feed, and that's a good thing. But they do require some, and sometimes it is enough to cause weakness in our donors. To that end also, we should investigate alternatives. Eat sprouts, eat live foods, convert to vegetarianism if it draws us, because I am slowly beginning to see that there is no contradiction between being a vegetarian, and a vampire.

Obviously, this page will be added to when I come to new conclusions or further these ones. In the meantime, you can handily go back by clicking that little active link. That one. Right there. Fourteen words back.
